Master color mixing and using the color wheel with acrylic paint in this one-day workshop. Learn the fundamentals of color and its properties in theory and practice: light, value, tone, hue, intensity, chroma, temperature, equilibrium, harmony, and unity.
Through practical exercises, you’ll discover how color affects mood, rhythm, movement in paintings and creates depth. Students will also learn ways to use the color wheel to organize color families when tweaking a painting.

Workshop Breakdown:

1- EXPLORE THE COLOR WHEEL. THEORY AND PRACTICE

• Color wheel explanation: Primary colors, Secondary colors, Tertiary colors, Neutral colors. Analogous colors, Color temperature contrast, Color value contrast, Complementary color contrast
• Display palette demonstration
• Mixing colors while creating a color wheel
• Working on Color Blending and mixing colors in the palette

2-MONOCHROMATIC SCALE THEORY & PRACTICE.

• Color values & color tone explanation: variation, intensity and contrast, monochrome colors, higher value, lower value
• Exercise Monochromatic scale mixing using a color of choice plus Black and white.

3- COMPLEMENTARY COLORS. THEORY & PRACTICE

• Complementary colors explanation: visual effects, mixing effects, emotional effects.
• Mix complementary colors through the three colors scales.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Pablo Contrisciani earned his Masters in Fine Arts, Painting at Facultad de Bellas Artes, National University of La Plata, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions locally, nationally and internationally. His work forms part of public and corporate collections from USA, Latin America and Europe. Pablo is an Oolite Arts alumnus (1998-2006 and 2010-2015) and works as a painting instructor since 1998.
