The Forgotten Exodus: The Untold Story of the Arab Jews

February 14, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This presentation is a lecture and the US book launch of Sephardi Voices: The Untold Expulsion of Jews From Arab Lands with authors Henry Green and Richard Stursberg. The presentation provides a brief overview of the expulsion of one million Jews from North Africa and the Middle East post the establishment of Israel with video and witnesses. Steeped in Sephardi heritage, the resettlement and integration of Arab Jews in Israel and the Diaspora have been challenging amidst the growing clamor for recognition, redress, and memorialization.

Henry Green is Professor of Religious Studies and the former director of Judaic and Sephardic Studies at the University of Miami, Florida. He is the founding director of The Jewish Museum of Florida, and of Sephardi Voices, a digital archive of Arab Jews. He has served as a Visiting Fellow at Oxford University and at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and has given testimony to the Congressional Human Rights Caucus in the United States as an advocate for the rights of those displaced.

Richard Stursberg has made his career in broadcasting, film, television, and telecommunications. He was Assistant Deputy Minister of Culture and Broadcasting in the Government of Canada, President of the Canadian Cable Television Association, Executive Director of Telefilm Canada and head of English services at the CBC. He is the Chairman of Save the Children Canada and Sephardi Voices International and past President of PEN Canada.
