In 2020, the City of Miami Beach commemorated the 155th Juneteenth Independence Day by holding a ceremony at Pride Park and planting a Rainbow Eucalyptus tree to forever remember the day in 1865 that all enslaved black people learned they had been freed from bondage and to celebrate Black lives and contributions to the city. The following events will take place to commemorate Juneteenth in the City of Miami Beach:

  • Juneteenth: Discussing the History, Meaning, and How Its Celebrated
    Virtual Talk on Tuesday, June 15 | 6 PM

    The talk will be moderated by: Kunya Rowley, Founder and Artistic Director of Hued Songs and Janey Tate, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of HyLo News Miami. They will be joined by guest speaker: Dr. Robert Morris, Broward College Professor
  • City of Miami Beach presents : Juneteenth Day of Freedom
    Second annual event at the Rainbow Eucalyptus tree, which was planted in 2020

    Performances by Rebecca “Butterfly” Vaughns, Jim Gaisor with Students from New World School of the Arts and the Peter London Global Dance Company will be streamed live on Facebook at www.facebook.com/cityofmiamibeach 
  • Juneteenth Food Festival with the Hungry Black Man and Miami Beach Parks & Recreation
    Saturday, June 19 | 2 PM – 7 PM
    North Shore Sand Bowl | 7275 Collins Avenue
    Bring your appetite to sample an array of Black American and vegan soul food as well as Afro-Caribbean favorites, and then dance the afternoon away to the sounds of a dynamic music set as the kids enjoy the interactive children’s play village. Admission is free, food and drinks will be sold.
  • The Juneteenth Experience at the Bandshell
    Join us for an evening of song, dance, and spoken word. The final Juneteenth Experience performance takes place at the historic North Beach Bandshell, 7275 Collins Avenue, on Saturday, June 19 and will unfold the story of Juneteenth past, present, and future. Directed by Michelle Grant-Murray with the musical direction of Wilkie Ferguson, III, the performance will feature a cast of 10 artists using their talents to tell one Juneteenth story.
