Yiddishkayt Live

Sunday, May 19 | 4:00PM | B Bar @ The Betsy
The Betsy’s Yiddishkayt Live Program features a different topic each month. Our May topic – The Yiddish
Roots of Israeli Culture – takes place at the intersection of Israeli and Yiddish culture, and will include (as
always) the history, poetry, song, theatre and discussion that makes Yiddishkayt so exciting, vibrant and fun.
The Betsy’s Yiddishkayt program salutes Miami Beach history, as this was a place where tens of thousands of
native speakers emigrated from Eastern Europe and Latin America, speaking Yiddish. At one time almost
every beach-goer was Yiddish fluent. Though times have changed we gather together to celebrate a time that
was – and to bring the culture forward into the 21 st century. This program is led by Miriam Hoffman, Professor
Emeritus, Columbia University and her son, Avi Hoffman, a Yiddishkayt performer and activist, who together
with Jewish Educator and Advocate, Jenni Person have created Yiddishkayt Live @ The Betsy Hotel.

The event is free. We invite you to come early or stay afterward and enjoy cuisine in one of our restaurants.
