Cuban Modernism: Mid-Century Architecture

October 27, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Designs for luxurious nightclubs, stylish hotels, sports facilities, elegant residences, and beyond attest to modern Cuba’s architectural legacy, both on the island and abroad. Join us as Victor Deupi and Jean-François Lejeune, authors of the new book Cuban Modernism: Mid-Century Architecture, 1940–1970, reveal how 20th-century architects drew on both vernacular traditions and avant-garde currents to define a style that was at once modern and Cuban. Deupi and Lejeune will speak about such iconic projects as the Tropicana Cabaret and the National School of Arts, while introducing virtually unknown and previously inaccessible visual material.

Co-presented with, and hosted by, the Miami Design Preservation League (please note: MDPL requires masks for entry). Support provided by the Graham Foundation.
