About: Author Genie Milgrom presents her new book, The Recipes of My Fifteen Grandmothers, a collection of recipes and stories dating back to Crypto Jewish times when the Jews were hiding underground while outwardly pretending to be Catholic. The grandmothers carried these recipes and all their traditions as they traveled from Spain to Portugal, Canary Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica and finally Cuba where Genie was born.
In the talk Genie will cover how many of the Jewish traditions were disguised as Catholic ones and how her family was able to survive 526 years first as Jews, then as Crypto Jews, then Catholics and now Jewish once again.
This collection and artifacts was found only recently in Genie’s ancestral home.
