The Rhythm Foundation proudly announces the first Axis of Love series show of the season. Takht Al-Nagham on Saturday, September 25 at 8 PM.

The Axis of Love series was created with the goal of injecting positivity and empathy into the global conversation. It highlights artists from the Middle East and North Africa, creating a meditative space with instrumental, traditional and innovative sounds.

Takht al-Nagham is Syrian Music Preservation Initiative’s performing ensemble. Based in New York City, the group features a traditional Takht (Arab chamber music group). “Nagham” is Arabic for melody, and is also used for the Maqam (Arab modal scale system). The Takht is committed to performing the classical and folk Syrian repertoire with traditional acoustic instruments and presents its sets (called Waslah) in the manner that they were originally performed. The Takht includes skilled Syrian and non-Syrian musicians who rely heavily on improvisations, and are deeply immersed in the Syrian musical tradition. Takht al-Nagham is led by Founder and Artistic Director, Samer Ali, a violinist with the National Arab Orchestra.

This performance features acclaimed Syrian Oud virtuoso and musicologist Muhammed Qadri Dalal. Dalal visited Miami as a member of al-Kindi Ensemble with the landmark Whirling Dervishes of Damascus tours in 2001 and 2004, and now lives in Alexandria, Egypt.

The evening will feature a pre-concert Syrian dinner, in partnership with Refugee Assistance Alliance, a South Florida non-profit organization working with underserved refugee families. The majority of client families have fled the Syrian Civil War and were resettled here within the past six years. RAA’s programs focus on teaching English to refugee adults, helping kids with their school work, doing GED and job certificate tutoring, Women’s Empowerment through TASTE dinners, assistance with practical needs, and cultural programming. RAA chefs will offer a Syrian dinner to guests (pre-purchased tickets only).

Tickets to Takht Al-Nagham in concert at the North Beach Bandshell, Saturday September 25 are {$25 – $55}, via www.RhythmFoundation.com
